When it rains, it pours (2 of 2)

And so to the metaphorical one. The proceeding 24 hours probably turned out to be the lowlight of our trip so far (and what's worse, most of it was self-inflicted!)...
Firstly, on return to Gerty, who we'd left parked on a hill in Queenstown, we set off...to find the brakes barely worked. We thankfully narrowly avoided taking out the fancy looking Toyota that was parked just downhill of us...but a trip to the garage in the morning left us with a hefty repair bill (the only upside was that we did manage to find one garage open despite it being a Saturday - with a really friendly mechanic who was able to sort her out straight away).
Secondly, on checking emails later in the morning, we found that the UK passport office had rejected the photos for Alistair's new passport application, because you could see his teeth. We rapidly got new photos in the post...but fingers crossed it doesn't impact our itinerary too much (we need to get a Chinese visa in Wellington before driving up to Auckland to fly out of NZ).
And finally later in the afternoon, with a slight distraction whilst trying to park Gerty, Alistair managed to take out half the bumper of a parked car - doh! Distraught calls from the owner and a call from the police put a dampner on the rest of the day...but I guess life can't be great all the time.
