Hokitika, the cool little town

We had scheduled a stop at Hokitika to coincide with their annual wild foods festival.
[yep, they are grasshoppers on those toasts]

A cute little gathering where the locals dress up
with good bands
(pictured are the Johnny's (Cash tribute) and there was also the NZ army band who were awesome) and lots of fun food stalls. In total we tried:
- Shark (fits into Sam's category of 'if it will eat me,I'll eat it')
- Crocodile (same as above)
- Kangaroo (a little chewy)
- Whitebait pattie (sounds simple but they don't batter them so they are whole and essentially look at you whilst you eat them....)
- Boar bacon buttie (Alistair only)
- Witchety (or hui hui) grub

Well done Alistair, you passed your bush tucker trial...
